Fashion Designers for Breast Cancer

In the month of October, pink is the new black.  Fashion designers and celebrities are putting their talents into raising awareness for Breast Cancer.

Ralph Lauren is hosting the Pink Pony Auction to raise money for their foundation.  The auction is selling rare collectibles from fashion, celebrities and athletes.

It also includes once-in-a-lifetime experiences like shopping with Simon Doonan, a ride with Lance Armstrong or lunch with Maggie Cheung.

Pink Pony supports programs for education and quality cancer care to medically underserved communities.  If a bidding on an item is out of reach, you can support this cause by shopping for pink pony fashion accessories like the printed silk scarf and sunglasses.

Narciso Rodriguez teamed up with Swedish chain Lindex to create the Pink Collection.  Lindex is a major sponsor to the Swedish Cancer Society, where a portion of the proceeds will be donated.  The collection itself consists of reasonably priced wardrobe staples, cashmere-blend knits, asymmetrical dresses, skinny pants.

Vera Wang collaborated with department store chain Kohl’s.  This special collection gives fans the opportunity to buy dressy pink pieces from the high-end designer at very affordable prices.  Check out the grosgrain ribbon evening bag  at only $10.00 or the sequined scarf also for $10.00

It’s not just clothing designers in the mix.  You can shop and help Breast Cancer Awareness with jewelry.  Ice.com’s Think Pink & Smile For a Cure campaign doesn’t  just ask you to shop for the cause.  They are asking you for your story of hope and humor to raise awareness of the disease.  Readers vote for their favorites to win amazing pieces of jewelry as part of their sweepstakes.   A percentage of sales from their Think Pink collection benefits the Comedy Cures Foundation.

Betsey Johnson's Birthday Party - Great at 68

Last night, fashion icon Betsey Johnson celebrated her Sweet 68 at her birthday party in Soho. She arrived in a pink limo. She looked fabulous in her signature blonde locks and red lipstick; she showed fans and colleagues that she has all the moxie she has always had since the 1960’s.
Staff and fashion groupies were dressed in girly Betsey Johnson frocks. Many wore wigs or styled their hair like their heroine. Some even paid homage through make-up.

Chambord provided raspberry flavored vodka cocktails. The Cupcake Café decked out the boutique in rich buttercream topped flower desserts.

The clothing had bright novelty prints that Betsey Johnson is known for. Dresses were girly, embellished with lace, ruffles, ready for dancing. Bows and roses decked handbags and shoes.

Betsey’s signature pink color has taken on a more significant meaning in recent years. She is a breast cancer survivor who has become a warrior against the disease. She was a chairperson for the CFDA’s Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign and co-authored the book “Why I Wore Lipstick to my Mastectomy” with Geralyn Lucas. She hosted charity events and raised money designing a t-shirt. She was presented with an award for her work by the National Breast Cancer Coalition in 2004.

Happy Birthday Betsey, and may you have many more to come!

Chambord First Lady of Fashion at the Kentucky Derby

Heading for the races? On April 30th, Chambord is sponsoring the First Lady of Fashion Contest during the Kentucky Derby to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Network of Strength. In collaboration with the Susan B. Komen foundation, the contest is part of the Derby's Ladies First events. Fashionistas will compete on the runway on the best incorporation of pink in their ensemble for an all expense paid trip to New York Fashion Week.

Chambord, that yummy raspberry liqueur, will also debut their Fleur de Lis cocktail at the event. Can't make it to Kentucky Oaks? No worries, you can shop for the cause at the
Derby store and while you make your own drink at home:

CHAMBORD Fleur De Lis

3/4 oz CHAMBORD

3/4 oz Finlandia Vodka

2 oz lemonade

1 oz cranberry juice

Squeeze of lemon

Shake all ingredients with ice and pour into a tall glass. Garnish with a lemon twist and a black raspberry.

Elle Magazine/Guess by Marciano Party to Benefit Breast Cancer Research

Last Thursday, Hubby and I attended a cocktail party at the Guess boutique in Soho. The event was hosted by Eliza Dushku and Joe Zee from Elle Magazine to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer research. If you have ever worn a pink ribbon, it was most likely to support this cause.

Petite Eliza Dusku looked beautiful, though almost lost in a sea of other black-clad fashionistas in the room. The taller Rick Fox and Whitney Port of The Hills were much easier to spot. Mark Indelicato, the youngest of the Ugly Betty clan was romping around the party with his friend, along with a couple of reality tv staples, singer Mitsue and me. At the beginning of the party, it almost seemed that the guests were outnumbered by media (MTV, Bravo, NBC were all filming).

I must say, the Guess by Marciano collection has really stepped up their game, as there were some very cute party-worthy dresses. The handbags (I attended the party for the Purse Page) definitely had some edgy, designer style. They have come a long way since the Shopping Mall staples of my youth.

For a $5 donation, you received a 20% discount of any purchase, as well as a big goodie bag. Champagne and refreshing cocktails of vodka, Ginton and white grape juice made shopping that much more enjoyable. Nibbles of turquoise-frosted cupcakes, lobster/mango skewers kept the lightweights from getting too tipsy... (Hubby declared, "I LOVE fashion parties...No one eats, and there's more for ME").

Missed the party? Shop the Susan G Komen online store to support the cause.
